I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
No August of your letter of 9th June 25836/11 covering copies of
correspondence on the subject of the fees chargeable by
Messrs. Wolfe Barry and Fartners in connection with
the Kowloon Canton Railway from which we learn that the
Government of Hong Kong has agreed to und arrang emen t
we proposed.
2. We communicated copies of this correspondencs
to the Consulting Engineers and I enclose for the
information of the Secretary of State a copy of the
reply we have received setting out the basis on which
their usual fees are calculated. It will be observed
that their charges will depend upon the amount of work
involved irrespective of the value of the indents.
3. With regard to the last paragraph of the Consulting Engineers' letter we consider their suggestion that they should resume direct correspondence with
Reilway officials under flying seal a good one. It is
the custom on other Colonial Railways for the Consulting
Engineers
The Under Secretary of State,
